Flash Fiction Friday: “There Will Be Blood”
For those who haven’t previously visited my Wordpress blog, I participate in Flash Fiction Friday, which challenges writers to compose a story of 250 words or less, using each of three wildcard words provided by Casey Morgan on her blog, Supplicium Post Mortem. Here’s this week’s entry. Wildcards were “sweat”, “Ophiuchus”, and “libretto”.

There Will Be Blood
Ophiuchus gazed at the barely-dressed girl in his embrace. Her wide, dark eyes and plump, youthful face expressed a hesitant innocence. It was a thin veneer though, much like the sweat coating her skin; she’d been easy to seduce.
Ophiuchus returned to kissing the girl—Allegra—and fondling her pert breasts. She gasped as he lifted her skirt and stroked her inner thigh, moaned and writhed as his fingers moved to trace the cleft outlined beneath the fabric of her panties. He pressed her down onto the bed, a bed which had before supported no body but his own, in a house into which no other had entered—until now. He had modified the wards that protected him just enough to allow Allegra’s presence, for she could provide what he needed—the blood of a maiden, freely given, as specified in the ancient grimoire known as Il Libretto dei segreti.
Ophiuchus removed Allegra’s undergarments and slipped his fingers past her moistened labia. It was his turn to gasp, for he encountered no resistance as he pressed deeper in search of her maidenhead.
Abruptly, he stood. Allegra followed suit. Her eyes were cold now, her jaw set sternly. She laughed harshly, and Ophiuchus realized he’d been tricked.
“Fool!” she cried. “You should never have let down your guard. We of the Circle have awaited revenge for a century, since you slaughtered our founder and usurped her power. Here in your sanctum, I shall do likewise to you. Tonight…you die.”
